Fanatics Sportsbook Launches in Virginia, Marks Seventh State Launch for Gaming Platform
The Fanatics Sportsbook is officially live in Virginia as of Nov. 21, 2023. This launch is considered a significant move for the emerging sportsbook as Virginia is home to about 8.7 million residents, many of whom live in some of the wealthiest counties in the entire U.S.
The mobile app launch in Virginia marks the seventh state where the Fanatics Sportsbook platform has been introduced, following Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Fanatics bills itself as “the most rewarding online sportsbook” and is offering a Rewards Surge to commemorate its debut in Virginia, enticing bettors with up to 5% back in FanCash as part of the sportsbook’s loyalty program.
Fanatics, founded in 2011 by Michael Rubin, is an American manufacturer and online retailer of licensed sportswear for major sports leagues. Earlier this year, Fanatics acquired PointsBet’s struggling U.S. sports betting business for $225 million, beating out DraftKings’ $195 million tender.
The launch in Virginia also comes with a responsible gaming initiative as Fanatics, along with other major players in the industry, debuted a campaign targeting the NBA, NHL, and NFL to encourage bettors to participate responsibly.
Former PointsBet users in Virginia must download the Fanatics Sportsbook app to continue their online wagering and can use the same login credentials they used for PointsBet. The launch also comes in time for a busy sports calendar over the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend, including a full slate of college hoops and NFL games.
Although Fanatics Sportsbook controls a smaller percentage of the market compared to industry giants like DraftKings and FanDuel, analysts see potential for growth due to the company’s extensive database of merchandise customers, many of whom could be converted into bettors.
The launch in Virginia follows the debut of its sportsbook and online casino products in West Virginia, where iGaming with interactive slots and table games is permitted. With a responsible gaming initiative in place, Fanatics Sportsbook continues to make its mark in the competitive U.S. sports betting industry.
