ESPN Bet and Quail Hollow Club Announce Sports Betting Partnership in North Carolina
ESPN Bet and Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte have joined forces to offer sports betting opportunities to North Carolinians. The deal comes just days after the North Carolina Education Lottery Commission opened up the application period for sports betting in the state. This partnership between ESPN Bet, the sportsbook brand from Penn Entertainment, and Quail Hollow Club, a prestigious golf venue, is expected to bring unique fan activations and exciting opportunities for sports betting enthusiasts in North Carolina.
Quail Hollow Club is a renowned stop on the PGA Tour, hosting the Wells Fargo Championship annually. It has also been home to prestigious golf events such as the 2017 PGA Championship and the Presidents Cup. This makes it an ideal venue for ESPN Bet to launch its online sports betting brand in North Carolina.
“We are thrilled to partner with Quail Hollow Club and the Wells Fargo Championship as we prepare to bring our new online sports betting brand, ESPN BET, to North Carolina,” said Benjie Levy, president and chief operating officer of Penn Interactive. “We’re excited to sponsor the popular Wells Fargo Championship and look forward to working together with our new partners to create unique fan activations.”
This move comes as North Carolina prepares for the launch of regulated online sports wagering. Without commercial casinos in the state, online sportsbook platforms are required to partner with professional sports venues to qualify for market entry. ESPN Bet’s partnership with Quail Hollow Club is a significant development in the burgeoning sports betting market in North Carolina.
The application period for sports betting licenses is currently open, and ESPN Bet and Quail Hollow Club have submitted their bid. The licensing fee for sportsbooks is $1 million, with 18% of gross proceeds going to the state. The online sportsbooks are expected to commence operations by June 15, 2024, as mandated by state law. In the meantime, North Carolinians can visit tribal casinos in the state where in-person sports gambling has been live since 2021.
The partnership between ESPN Bet and Quail Hollow Club is expected to provide sports betting enthusiasts in North Carolina with an exciting new opportunity to engage with their favorite sports in a unique and interactive way. With the growing popularity of sports betting, this collaboration is a significant step forward for the sports entertainment industry in the state.
